Five days full of new technologies and 210.000 visitors makes Hannover Messe one of the most important events for the industries of tomorrow. The Netherlands was represented in the Holland Pavilion organized by, the ministry of economic affairs, RVO & Holland High-tech. The Holland pavilion showed the collaboration and innovativeness of the Dutch high-tech-sector.

Opportunities for the semiconductor industry in the Netherlands (article in dutch)

New MIT subsidies available

Exclusively for Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SME’s, or in Dutch: MKB), 4 very interesting subsidy (or funding) opportunities will be made available. Known as the so called MIT program, it funds the internal and external costs for research and development starting from 35% and up till even 50%. It is an ideal way to get additional funding on the costs of a consult from a knowledge institute like the Dutch Optics Centre, TNO and/or TUDelft.

Dutch Optics Centre a official Smart Industry Fieldlab

The Netherlands has a expertise in the area of optics which is unique in the world. To strengthen the corporation between high-tech firms and knowledge institutes in the Netherland; TNO and TU Delft founded Dutch Optics centre (DOC) in 2016. On November the 13th DOC was given the official status of Smart Industry Fieldlab by FME and Smartindustry chariwoman Ineke Dezentjé Hamming-Bluemink. This fieldlab gives access to a wide network of 2.200 companies in the technological industry sector, influence on agenda’s, participation on projects en assignment, but also follow-up financing.

Precision Fair 15 and 16 November 2017 Pushing the limits!

On November 15 and 16, 2017, Dutch optics centre participates in the Precision Fair in Veldhoven and we are ready to meet our relations in the Brabant Hall at the Kennisplein. At the Precision Fair we present our technologies for the high-tech sector. Technologies where we continually push the limits, collaborate and establish new connections to stimulate innovation in Dutch business. Our message: the knowledge we gain is available for you. Small satellite PEASSS takes big step in space technology

Demand for compact, lightweight satellites that are cheap to produce is growing fast. Satellites the size of a carton of milk, or CubeSats as they are known, are now an integral part of the space industry. These satellites are used for gathering data about the Earth’s surface and atmosphere, for example, or for taking photos. However, small satellites can be vulnerable, especially the on-board equipment they carry. TNO has been leading the development of a technology (‘smart structures’) within the EU funded PEASSS project, which measures the deformation of the satellite and is able to correct this in space.

Results second research meeting

On Wednesday 30th August the second edition of the DOC research meeting was organized at the TU-delft. The research meetings aim to bring the ecosystem together and define the innovation research topics for the near future.. Over 25 companies and the ministry of economic joined the meeting. The discussions where split in 3 different themes and three groups: Spectrometry which focuses on food, pharma and water. Metrology which discussed particle detection and topological subjects. Imaging which discussed compressed sending and 3d imaging technology for medical purposes. Next step is to make the subjects more concrete and define research projects.

ABN-AMRO: Dutch industry sees the light with photonics

The ABN-Ambro bank wrote a report about new opportunities in the ‘photonics’ sector. It gives an exposition of the current status of the market, and insight into new key technologies, and a number of recommendations for the stakeholders into the Dutch photonics sector. Besides being a interesting report to read, the report also mentions Dutch Optics center in a positive light.

Laser World of Photonics

From June 26th to June 29th, 2017 Dutch optics centra was present at the Laser World of Photonics (www.world-of-photonics.com). This is the largest photonics trade fair in the world: 32000 exhibition visitors from 90 countries, with about 1300 exhibitors. In addition, the accompanying World of Photonics Congress with 3,500 visitors is an important event, which contributed to various DOC colleagues through posters, chairs and presentations. At the invitation of and together with PhotonDelta we represented the Dutch Fotonica landscape. Many PhotonDelta companies had a place in the stand (Smart Photonics, Bright Photonics, Phoenix Software, Jeppix, Lionix Nanolab @ tue,). Furthermore, the companies Optics11 and VTEC, the industry association PhotonicsNL and the government RVO were present.

‘Van baanbrekend klimaatonderzoek tot de fabricage van chips: we hebben enorm veel te danken aan de innovatieve en optische instrumenten die in Nederland worden ontwikkeld. Tegelijkertijd blijft veel technologie op de plank liggen. Bedrijven en kennisinstellingen weten elkaar niet altijd even goed te vinden; veel technologie blijft simpelweg onbenut of sijpelt weg naar het buitenland.’

The day of Photonics

On may 10th Dutch Optics Centre hosted, the Day of Photonics in Delft. The event, organized by PhotonicsNL is recurring every half a year. The 30 members of PhotonicsNL attended a whole day of presentations and participated in a tour through the advanced lab facilities. The labs are being used by the Dutch Optics Centre to develop new optomechatronical products in collaboration with Dutch companies. It’s a unique integration of R&D between universities, research institutes and companies.

EBL2, EUV exposure and analysis facility

Since 2000 TNO has been active in EUV material interaction research, developing the 2nd generation EUV exposure and in-situ surface analysis facility – dubbed EBL2 – to accommodate the ASML power roadmap. This system will give customers the opportunity to evaluate their materials/components in terms of NXE-relevant EUV irradiation and environmental conditions in order to address contamination and lifetime challenges.

TNO expands optomechtronics activity to Eindhoven

Within Dutch Optics Centre(DOC) of TNO, TU-Delft and other research institutions there are excellent research-facilities for to development of optomechotranical components for high-precision products like satellites, telescopes, microscopes and analyses. Because of the collaboration with companies in the Brainport area of Eindhoven. DOC wil op a annexe in Eindhoven on the 1th of March.

Successful trade mission to Germany

The hundredth Dutch trade mission included 100+ companies and research institutes that traveled with Minister Ploumen to the German state of Thuringia. The mission ran parallel to the visit of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima to the federal states of Thuringia, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt.

Industry and knowledge institutions join forces in Dutch Optics Centre

Dutch companies in the optical manufacturing industry can strengthen their position in the global market by joining forces in a consortium with research institutes and the government. Therefore TU Delft and TNO launched the Dutch Optics Centre today. Some 20 industrial SMEs are involved in the initiative, six of which are now also a partner in joint R & D projects. The city of Delft, the Province of South Holland and the Ministry of Economic Affairs support this initiative.
